So here I am recovering from a cold I got in Vegas from drinking waaay too much and sleeping waaay too little. I am sure you will all see the evidence of that in any of the babble filled interviews I did about the game. Anyway I am perched here in front of my computer hitting the refresh button on several gaming websites to see if any reviews have come up. Lame I know…but since this is my first the reviews do mean a whole lot more to me than they ever have. I have become so accustomed to not caring about the reviews of the game I work on that it is a real shock to the system to be unable to sleep until I see the first that pop up.
From what I understand from the marketing folks and the journo’s I met at D.I.C.E. the reviews should start popping up as early as midnight tonight…well this morning….fuck it…now. In the long run I don’t think it will be healthy for me to read the reviews too much, but since this is such a huge freaking deal to me here I am clicking the refresh button again.
I saw the game trailers preview…bummer about them not getting to finish. I think they ran into some of the issues the team fixed after the review code went out. That is the nature of the beast when sending out the disks before we go through the final steps of QA. I can’t wait to hear their responses when they get the final disks though.
I need to go to sleep…I am tired and this medicine I am on is making me drowsy…but I can’t…gotta’ see what the verdict is. So fucked up isn’t it? I am not someone who really needs outside validation to feel confident in the work I have done. I mean, I love the game, and I know we have done something great. But that is just me...and I am biased like a mother fucker. Oh well life’s a bitch I guess…we will just have to see what we will see.
Refreshing pages again…still nothing. The funny thing is I am probably the only sucker up…they are all most likely asleep nursing the aftermath of their D.I.C.E induced hangovers. Pathetic…me…not them.

Holy shit…a 9.7…nice! After reading it I was expecting a sense of relief to just rush over me, but alas it has not. It is a great review and I am so incredibly psyched that they liked it, but I will hold my jumping around and dancing for when the game is actually on the shelevs. I think I need to just step back from everything now…maybe get back to work on the story I am fleshing out now and figure this fucker out. Still many details to work out! I just got a call from Nate, one of the designers, telling me about the review. I think a bunch of us are going to go out and have a nice celebratory dinner and a few drinks…that should be fun. I think I will need to get to sleep soon so I shake this freaking cold.

~I knew my faith in you wasn't misplaced Barlog..you've done very well and I haven't even had the chance to play it personally.. I'm not an easy person to please. It just happens to be that I'm a big fan of Greek Myth and 'violent vidoegames' (BRUTALITY FTW). FPS just don't cut it for me.
---It is probably for my own good that I don't have the demo yet.. I've got another report coming up that requires me to do something new (going to a Shooting Range and Shooting things..I don't like guns) or I'm totally going to have a hard time passing the class. If I had the demo already I'd never work on it..but that doesn't mean I'm not craving it everyday.

I can tell you right now I'm going to LOVE this game. Already playing God Of War again (on god mode for the eighth time), I can tell there's a lot of differences between the two. Most notably the sound effects. In the first game they sound a little more bland and uninteresting, but in this one, every swing has a very loud sound that makes me piss myself a little. I keep watching the preview and pounding my speakers at six in the morning. Bravo GOW, you keep accomplishing new goals.
Best of luck to all you guys, and I sincerely hope this game receives game of 2007, but it'll be hard with stiff competition like Assassin's Creed, Unreal Tournament III, Crysis, among others obviously.
I wish I found this blog beforehand, so I could have secured a demo. Oh well, eBay here I come. I don't even know if you're sending them to Canada either so maybe I didn't just lose out on being unattended after all.

Hi Cory, can you give some technical description of how you're going to achieve 720p on the PS3? I was wondering if used some special display mode known only to the PS3 or if you're using some kind of PS2 emulation which includes upscaling to obtain higher resolutions "for free". I know Sony are working on PS2 software emulation so it would be interesting to know if that's how you are doing it.

Congrats! I was a little pessimistic that this could live up to the the original, but after reading IGN and 1UP's reviews it looks like you've at least made a comparable game, if not even better. And freakin' 720p support (according to IGN)!! You guys are awesome. Can't wait to try it out on my HDTV. How much will the two disc set cost? $50-60 sounds about right.

By the way, the IGN review is really VERY lame. My grandma would've written it better, and she hasn't played a single game in her life. Those folks are getting their money for nothing. One thing they are really good at is to kill your feelings for the game completely...they do it every time. Fuck'em... But Gamespot, they are also pretty lame. They'll lower their mark for no reason, you'll see. They have a certain attitude for some games. So "passionate" about the product they are... almost as much as IGN. As for 1up, I can't read it either.
lol Those guys at 1up are weird. The very first thing they mention in the review is that there IS another sex mini-game on the Rhodes area. Well whoopi fuckin doo!lol

This puzzled me a bit. A silhouetted 2D battle? o_O

But there are four massive boss fights in particular that rival the scale and drama of anything seen in the first game. One boss is so large you can't even see its head until 10 minutes into the fight. Another boss you have to first defeat on the outside and then climb through its burning remains to finish it off from the inside. And have you ever wanted to see the Alma fight from Ninja Gaiden done right? It's here."

As for disapointments:
"With all this going on, the only real disappointment (apart from minor things like occasionally excessive screen-tearing and a few less than ideal cut-scene framerates) is that the game doesn't really feel like it's evolving the series as much as it is presenting another great entry. The best parts of the game are the incredible scenarios players come across. But each only shows up for a few minutes, and rather than sticking around for the whole game or improving its core, it disappears. Your time with the pegasus is great, for example, but it's over almost as soon as it begins."

i just viewed the intro for god of war 2 on game trailers and holy shit. This is probably the most epic game I have ever anticipated.
Seriously. I have played all the "epic" classes..zelda..metroid..all of them up to jak and daxter. This game however seems to cinematic and so deep that I cannot believe that is actually a game rather than a movie.
I must say that if this is not a trilogy than you gotta be fuckin kidding me.
The series has kicked ass so far even taking in the fact that the 2nd one hasn't even been released.
I don't mean this in a rude way, but if you were smart you would change that wall of post its into a third installment.

Although I disagree with some of the points about God Of War II's flaws, that probably because I am the most dedicated and loving fan alive for the game, you deserved the greatness of the reviews. The Icon for Thunder and earth spell: Chain thunder and soundwave ico; the ones u see on an earthqukes's seismograph.
We see the actual footage of this new earth spell, K smashes his hand against the floor and boulders pop out.
We have seen the new weapon:
Spear of destiny and its pink, i hope its the same as the one featured in the human boss fight against K.
Where he attacks K by summoning ice crystals and the spear is blue but in this footage, the spear is pink.
In this footage of IGN, Kratos flips an enemy into the air and when the enemy comes down and like shooting wind arrows at the enemy, this time he shoots pink ice crystals.

We were all convinced that Kratos was a completely made up character. But if you go on wikipedia.com it tells you who Kratos is.
In Greek mythology, Cratos ("strength") was a son of Styx and Pallas, brother of Nike, Bia and Zelus. He was the personification of strength and power. Cratos and his siblings were all companions of Zeus.
The spelling Kratos would be more faithful to the original Greek spelling, which is Kpatoc. The Latinized spelling Cratus has also been used.

ha, i rushed and got my demo friday as well. i still have the original "god of war" demo also, i'm keeping everything related to this game.

Congratulations to you and the rest of the team for a truly great accomplishment. Creating a game that compares favorably to a smash hit like GOW is a tremendous challenge, and if the reviewers' consensus is any indication, you have surpassed it.
The demo's coming in Monday, so I'll soon get a taste of what's in store. It ought to be a welcome diversion that should stifle productivity for hours on end. I can hardly wait.

Has anybody else that played the demo found the urn of Gaia? I watched numerous playthroughs and nobody has even went anywhere close to it?

it's in the hallway after the second part of the boss fight, after you use the base of that statue thing to open the first gate you have to push the pedestal to the right and then push it down another hallway and you'll see three chest, push the pedestal up against the same wall and it's up there, you can't use it for anything though.
hahaha oké well that did not work :) and yes i'm losing my mind vitali.... and i need big help.. like demo help.... but i think cory lost his way to the keypad ;) but next time you found keypad write this down: guys i finally sended the demo's. cause at this rate we will receive our demo's just a day before the actual game :(

This game is what i dreamed of,now i'm going to play it for the 22nd time.And how the hell can i evade the colossus hits it seems that he can't be avoided.(How the hell will i be able to beat him in TITAN MODE)?????
The demo is superb! I was having great fun playing it for like, three times. Something new's happening all the way through, something unexpected like this giant feet from nowhere. It's smarter and more inventive than the first game! If you've managed to keep this consistent feeling during the whole game, you'll receive a 10/10 from me. It's fun! It's creative! The environments are changing all the time, the level design is varied and engaging. I really like the way the speed of the combos is increased, the moves being even more destructive. It makes the battles perfect and the series of combos endless, and I find myself desiring more and more enemies, being surprised when the action is over so fast! That being said, this game wouldn't be the same without vibration. DON'T play GoWII on the PS3, cause the battles will seem sterile and unreal, making it unable for you to actually feel the blades in your hands. God of War 2 is a PS2 game, and the PS3 WILL NOT have such a game. Not in the next five years at least, if ever.
Cory, I just wanted to put this idea in your head for GOW3. Put Kratos up against an army of soldiers! I know you could do it with the PS3 hardware. Put like hundreds of thousands of enemies on the screen at once and Kratos has to fight all of them! Remember that part in GOW where Kratos grabbed Hades Armor and he had to kill dozens of undead soldiers before that spike wall crushed him? Make it something like that but with much more enemies and a much bigger area to fight in, like a coliseum or something. Lol, I just wanted to put that in your head. Just think of the combo's people would pull off. They would probably be able to do combos in the million hit range. The Internet would go nuts with videos. I'm PATR1OT and I am from the God of War board on the IGN Message Boards and many users over there think that would be a great idea as well. Alright, later!

im pretty sure that you all can handle a little over 3 weeks just for a game. so stop flippin out over the demo. yeah a signature is nice on a cd, but think of all the signatures in the actual game. even though i go a little ocd at times, it is possible to realize that this is just a game and cory has much more in him than just this. if i were you all, i'd just wait and savor it when it comes out. unfortunately, i have deathloads of homework (yeah im in high school) so i got stuff to do. keep yourselves busy instead of blowing your brains out. im not saying i have the most work in the world cause i know firsthand that i dont. but i do know that im still alive up to this day and am able to wait for 3 weeks since i've been living for several years. lay off cory unless you got positive things to say. if you havent noticed, he looks like he has health problems. he's got enough on his shoulders. let him do what he wants. it's ok to ask for updates, but dont even start actin like you got somethin to complain about until you ask him yourself exactly what he went through just to get this game on the market. im no suckup, but jus bein real. if i were you all, since you are close in contacts, i would be giving him new ideas for god of war 3 cause i think we can all agree that we want more. ease up a bit and wait those 3 weeks. after what i've seen i think we will all be more than just perfectly impressed with the game. keep it trill. cory, just do what ya gotta do. dont flip on this or that; you need your health back. paz.

your indeed right we will survive 3 weeks ( for me in europe thats still 8 weeks ) and i admid that my post sounded more dramatic then it was intended to. but atleast you are reacting normal so thanks :) unlike that anonymous person

sorry but it's very hard to understand but hat you just wrote the release date in america is march 13 and in europe it's still unknown but expect around 3 weeks later
